Community Awareness and Livelihood Readiness

We work towards enhancing livelihood readiness among underserved populations by improving access to information, awareness of entitlements, and understanding of livelihood opportunities. The programme supports employment-enhancing preparedness through community-based engagement rather than formal training, contributing to informed decision-making and increased participation in economic activities. This is consistent with CSR policies that support upstream livelihood interventions beyond direct skill certification or placement.

Women Empowerment and Social Inclusion

This initiative supports the CSR objective of strengthening community systems and organisational capacity through grounded engagement and learning. The focus on informal dialogue, trust-building, and reflective documentation contributes to improved programme design and long-term community development outcomes. Such learning-oriented interventions are commonly supported under CSR policies that recognise the importance of contextual understanding and sustainable development planning.

Book Donation Drives to Support Institutional Learning and Literacy

Book Culture North East, in association with the Social Development Network (SDN), strengthened access to books and learning resources for institutional care settings in Aizawl during 2025. These activities aimed to enrich reading environments for residents and library users, particularly in settings where access to books is limited by institutional context or socio-economic barriers.

Travelling Book Fair – Knowledge for All

In 2025, the Travelling Book Fair – Knowledge for All was successfully implemented across selected locations in Aizawl and Lunglei districts. Book Culture | Northeast, in association with the Social Development Network (SDN), brought the Travelling Book Fair to Aizawl for the first time, offering over two lakh books ranging from enchanting children’s literature and timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers. The fair combined free public access to reading resources with community-centred programming and special offers aimed at enhancing affordability (e.g., bestsellers priced by weight and bundled deals) — a model similar to other travelling book fairs in the Northeast that use innovative pricing to widen access to books. The event aligned closely with SDN’s mission to empower women, children, and youth through education, awareness and access to opportunities, reinforcing the role of books as bridges connecting people, ideas, and cultures.

Free Medical Outreach for Elderly Community Members

In 2025, SDN organised a one-day Free Medical Outreach Clinic in Electric Veng to address immediate healthcare needs of elderly community members. With health infrastructure gaps in Mizoram — where limited specialist availability and outreach services pose ongoing challenges for preventive care access — community-based medical camps play an important role in bridging healthcare access barriers.
